The highest point of the routes, the Espace Trail and the Monts du Lyonnais, the Tour Matagrin stands at an altitude of 1,004m at the summit of Mont Boussuivre. Its altitude gives its name to the Violay 1004 centre, the starting point for the 4 trails in the area. The Tour Matagrin offers a superb view of the Monts du Lyonnais and the Douglas fir forests where the course trails wind. This building dates back to 1876 and was used as a hunting lodge and triangulation point. It is accompanied by a tall metal tower, a communications relay, which can be seen from the plain several dozen kilometres away.
