Built at the end of the 19th century to link Panissières to Feurs, the Monorail is, as its name suggests, a single track on which runs a steam locomotive, nicknamed ‘the funny machine’ by the locals, transporting passengers and merchandises. Abandoned even before it was officially put into service, the line today leaves the remains of a large track through fields and forests used by the Espace Trail between Salt-en-Donzy and Panissières, as well as several pedestrian bridges spanning it, which can be counted kilometre by kilometre. Numerous explanatory panels tell the story of the trail.
