At the top station of the Champéry-Planachaux cable-car, stop for a moment to admire the panoramic views of the Portes du Soleil. Not far in front of you, you will see the solitary Pointe de Ripaille, with the rugged peaks of the Dents Blanches ridge in the background. From here, turn sharply to your left and walk downhill between the cable-car station and the Planachaux chairlift. The path passes between the chalets, then drops into the forest just between the Planachaux and the Grand Paradis chairlifts Along the way, you'll enjoy spectacular view of the Encel Pass and the Ruan glacier nestled between the Dents du Midi and the Dents Blanches mountain ranges. The trail continues between alpine pastures and forests, then hits the paved road for 1km. You'll get back onto the trail at a bend in the road, following a flattish forest trail. This is the area called Ayerne, at the foot of the steep slopes of the Croix de Culet, overlooking Champéry village. Following the paved road for another short stretch, you'll pass by the Cantine Sur Cou, and take the gravel road that splits off before you in bend in the road. Watch out for cars and bikes; although unpaved, this road through the Malatry Forest is open to drivers! When you reach the paved road, continue for about 300m, then turn left to pass behind a chalet, taking a dirt road that crosses a small forest and a river before rejoining the main road to Les Crosets. As soon as you reach the village, head left to take the path up the Marcheuson cliff. Once you reach the summit of the Marcheuson ski lift, you will see the summit of Planachaux before you, where you can take the easy trip back down to Champéry by cable-car.
