Latin name: Celtis occidentals

Origin: The tree is native to North America and can be found from Texas and Alabama to the provinces of Quebec and Ontario in Canada. Planted in Europe as early as 1636 as an ornamental tree, it does not tolerate extreme cold, so it is found more in Western Europe than in Eastern Europe.

Characteristics: The hackberry is a tree that can live in its natural environment up to 500 years. Its trunk is relatively short, covered with a thin grey bark. Its foliage is spreading and consists of elliptical leaves, toothed and rough on top. Its fruits are edible and appear in the autumn.
