Latin name: Platanus orientalis

Origin: This species is native to the eastern Mediterranean basin and Central Asia. It has an important place in the culture of the Kashmir region. It was introduced into Europe in the 4th century B.C. in the Roman culture and was considered a luxury item at that time. Its extensive growth and resistance to pruning made it a very popular tree in urban environments.

Characteristics: The Oriental Plane has a rough dark brown bark that peels off in small rounded patches in early spring, revealing the new bark. It is often very large, with a wide trunk and a remarkable span of foliage. It can be used as an isolated tree or as a tree in a row that is pruned regularly.
