Sancerre, land of Wizards? Here is a part of local history, almost forgotten but... still present.
At the end of 1582, five witches were executed for having caused the devil to possess a young child. The corpse of one of them was even burned in Marloup. Infamous sabbaths like those of 1772, 1175 or 1846 brought natural calamities to the region. Today, the leaders of the clouds, the stoners, the spell casters, the sorcerers and other miscreants are very discreet. Don't hang around too long on your way if you don't want to meet them!
The route heads towards Bué where the annual festival at the beginning of August is called Wizards' Night, we're not lying to you! After crossing this preserved wine-growing village you will climb towards the village of Reigny through vineyards then via the GR 31 towards Les Epsailles. Before arriving at the charming village of Sens-Beaujeu, a break at the Fontaine de Combry will purify you. Paths in the middle of a cereal plain will guide you to the Moulin de Tuau then it’s back up to the hamlet of La Forêt via Croix de Couet. Direction Chavignol which we discover through the panorama of Graveron des Epsailles. The vineyard paths take you back to Sancerre via the Bouffants vineyard and Petit Morice.
