Commune de St Etienne de Tinée / Auron

The Vens lakes are made up of a series of five main lakes located in the Haute Tinée and the Mercantour National Park.
The largest, overlooked by the Vens refuge, has a depth of 31 m.
The two access points are only by hiking from the bottom of the Vens valley (Vens car park) or via the hamlet of Pra (Circuit de Tortisse). It is one of the major sites of the Mercantour National Park with the discovery of the lakes which spread their emerald-colored waters between 2,200 and 2,400 m from July to November. These lakes are populated with trout which can be caught from July to mid-September (fishing map on sale online here).

The Tortisse needles and their spectacular natural arch, the exemplary Vens refuge, or the ancestral hamlet of Ferrière, complete a menu of perfect balance embedded in steep slopes: gray schists, eroded areas of ocher earth and alpine lawns. there dispute the primacy of the landscape.

Routes such as the Grande Traversée du Mercantour or the Chemin de l’Energie cross the landscapes of this natural setting. The Refuge des Lacs de Vens is guarded from mid-June to mid-September each year.
Restricted area. Dogs are prohibited even on a leash.
