The village of La Roche-sur-le-Buis lies in the middle of a fantastic chaos of boulders, making this unspoilt area unique, with its typical Baronnies habitat. Each of the village's alleyways features
carved doors from different eras. La Roche was the birthplace of painter Fortuné Layraud, originally a modest shepherd whose talents were recognized by the village priest. After attending the Beaux-Arts, he became a renowned portraitist in Lisbon and France. You can also visit the Saint-Michel and Saint-Christophe churches in La Roche, as well as the Pénitents chapel (Musée d'arts et de traditions) and the old cemetery (Jardin des plantes symboliques).

Departure: Park in the visitors' parking lot in the village of La Roche-sur-le-Buis, or before if this is congested.

1. From the parking lot, walk up opposite the little bell tower to reach the main street, which you follow to the left. You pass the town hall (pretty fountain). After a small tunnel (soustet), the road descends again. Always follow this main street, even if secondary lanes cross it.

2. After 300m, at the fork in the road, turn left downhill.

3. 100m further on, at the town exit sign, leave the road and turn right onto a path at the foot of a low wall, which separates two olive groves.

4. Join a track on the left. It passes between olive groves.

5. 130m further on, at the fork, take the left-hand track downhill.

6. Turn left at the fork. After 30 m, turn left again. In a bend, the track becomes a road. It then joins the D159, which you take on the left for 150m.

7. At the fork in the road, turn right at the "Village producteur du tilleul des Baronnies" sign. Just before the hamlet of Lunières, go down the Chemin du Polet. After 50 m, turn left onto chemin des grandes vignes.

8. 50m further on, the path continues to the left and becomes a track. Follow this track for 1.7 km, even if it is crossed by side roads.

9. You reach the road, which you take on the left for 300m.

10. You come to the intersection of the D508 and the D159 (carrefour de la Roche-sur-le-Buis, alt. 560m). Turn left onto the road leading up to the village. This is the rue de Boissillonnes. Drive through the village on the main street, now called Rue du Grand Verger, and join the visitors' parking lot.
