Ideal route for exploring Sancerre vineyards via the west balconies.
After crossing the old town and its typical streets, we quickly head downhill towards the Mignonne cellars. We reach the wine-growing village of Amigny by going up through Clos Saint-Martin. By the crest path we discover the Amigny cirque with its dry lawns registered Natura 2000 then that of Chavignolet with its vines in the middle of rather wild woods. We reach the Cul de Beaujeu above the famous village of Chavignol where you will absolutely have to return. We bypass the village via the Monts Damnés vineyard which takes its name from the difficulty in cultivating it. One of the most famous terroirs of the Sancerre appellation. We leave Chavignol to head towards Verdigny, another prestigious village in the appellation. We leave Verdigny to climb towards Clos du roc, the vineyard path winds until reaching the viaduct which now serves as a tourist route above Saint-Satur. Last flat part before tackling the daredevil path, the legendary arrival of the Sancerre Trail.
Little advice: trace to follow in the morning at sunrise, the Sancerre peak is magnificently highlighted.
