Here you are at the start of a beautiful, long adventure that will take you to discover the mountains surrounding Vernet-la-Varenne, in the Livradois-Forez Regional Nature Park. The pleasant start to the route is generally downhill, although there are a few short climbs, following the various river crossings at the beginning of the outing. The first half of the route is a good warm-up before we get down to the nitty-gritty! It's from the hamlet of Valz-sous-Châteauneuf that the route changes face, with most of the positive gradient ahead of you. After an initial effort up to Vieille Prade, you'll quickly descend to the Guelle stream before tackling a long climb. The route takes you along forest tracks and through the village of Saint-Martin-d'Ollières. Once you've reached Peslières, there's a downhill section where you can shake off your legs before a steep descent to the Ruisseau de l'Engrais. But make sure you keep plenty of energy: there's almost 4km of climbing ahead of you to reach the highest point of the route. The reward is a beautiful view of the surrounding area, with the Puy-de-Dôme on the horizon, followed by a gentle descent to Vernet-la-Varenne.
