Welcome to the heart of Ghjunsani and Balagne, an unspoilt region that is home to one of the most beautiful forests in Corsica: the Tartagine and Melaghja forest. Accessible from the Maison forestière de Tartagine, located in the commune of Olmi-Cappella and dominated by the majestic Monte Padro, culminating at 2389 metres, this forest offers a veritable natural sanctuary for nature lovers and activity enthusiasts.

Once vital to the inhabitants of Ghjunsani, this forest is an integral part of Corsica's Regional Nature Park and is home to an impressive diversity of tree species. Larici pines, Corsican yews, junipers and tree heather make up a unique plant landscape. This botanical richness has enabled the Tartagine and Melaghja forests to be protected as natural areas of ecological interest in terms of flora and fauna. In addition, the holm oak and juniper forests have been given extra protection thanks to their inclusion in the Natura 2000 zone, guaranteeing the preservation of their natural habitats.

The flora of this forest is just as impressive. You'll find ash trees, birch trees and a variety of plants such as Tartagine holly and foxglove. This exceptional natural setting provides a haven for a diverse range of wildlife. Residents of these forests include the bearded vulture, golden eagle, discreet mouflon, goshawk, Corsican nuthatch and Corsican red deer, all of which find a safe, unspoilt habitat here.

The enchanting landscapes of the Tartagine and Melaghja forests, marked by the majesty of Monte Padro, invite you to contemplate and marvel.
